I can play a disc directly but not rip it

I have a 4K copy of Life of Pi (UK version) that I bought used as my first 4k blu-ray. Since I got it initially I've had some troubles playing and ripping it using my desktop (drive is an LG BU40N in an external USB enclosure) but when I tried to rip it today I've been having issues with MakeMKV reading and ripping it (drive hasn't had any issues with any other discs, UHD or not). I've been getting these errors stopping the ripping process dead in it's tracks.

The weird part is that I can just play the disc using MPV, and MakeMKV as the blu-ray backend, with no noticeable issues.

I have cleaned the disc, but I have noticed some kind of un-glueing at one spot of the disc's rim which I guess is the cause for the issues.

My question is, is there something that I can do to maybe get the disc in a slightly better condition or get MakeMKV to ignore/power through the errors and get a slightly imperfect but still watchable rip? Can I maybe get the ray stream from makemkv and pass it to something like ffmpeg to rip it that way?

i am now getting the same thing. it just started with the new discs. Now my player wont read any.
