Disc Seems to Rip Successfully, but Ends in LIBMKV Error

#1 Post by bandrewsnmn » Wed Jan 28, 2026 11:39 pm

I have ripped hundreds of discs with MakeMkv, and this is the first time I've encountered this. While ripping a brand new disc some, but not all, of the titles fail right at the end. And by that I mean the ripping progress bar gets all the way to the end with no errors, and then there is one LIBMKV_TRACE error that seems to happen when it is finalizing the file. This is consistent, where the titles that work seem to always work, and the ones that fail always fail.

I've looked to see if there are known workarounds, but haven't found many discussions that include this error. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or if it is a bug in the current version (1.8.3) of MakeMKV

Here is my log for 2 titles that are experiencing this from the same disc with debug logs enabled:

Update, borrowed another Blu-Ray drive from a friend to see if it was something going on with my hardware, but hit the exact same LIBMKV error:

Code: Select all

Saving 5 titles into directory D:/MakeMkv/Silicon Valley S2
LIBMKV_TRACE: Exception: MKV_ASSERT: TimecodeDelay >= int16(0x8000) && TimecodeDelay <= int16(0x7FFF)

Update the 2nd

I did some more searching, and found this forum post:
viewtopic.php?f=7&p=164772
where others were also running into this same issue.

The suggestion was to disable ripping subtitles from the affected titles, and that did work as a solution for me. With subtitles deselected all the titles on my disc ripped without error.
