#1 Post by MrTeagan » Sun Jul 31, 2011 5:57 am

Anyway you guys could give us the option of having chapters to start at 1 instead of 0?

Chapter numbers or track numbers? All my rips show chapter numbers starting at 1.

When I rip using makemkv, my chapters are labeled beginning "Chapter 00" then next Chapter 01.

I believe you mean titles, not chapters.

No, I mean chapters. Not titles. If I rip one title, the chapter stops when read on Subler etc or on the playback device start as labeled Chapter 00 and it should start at 01.

Files created with MakeMKV 1.6.12 have the chapter titles start with "Chapter 01" for me.

This is a bit complex and ugly. Chapters start with 00, but if the first chapter is too close (less than 1 second) to the second, then the "0" chapter is deleted. This is the case for 99% discs. Sometimes, for discs that don't have the real "first" chapter MakeMKV keeps the "0" chapter. Iwould only suggest to rename chapters manually for such discs.

I was doing some searching for this problem and ran across a couple of threads.

All of the Blu-ray rips that I checked (about a dozen) display Chapter 00 for the first chapter.

The DVD rips that I checked display Chapter 01 for the first chapter.

It also looks like this was brought up before: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=215

I could check more but it seems that all blu-ray's are displaying Chapter 00 for the chapter beginning at 00:00:00.000

Is it possible to increment the chapter number for display when creating the MKV?

Example Blu-ray (from text display mode in MediaInfo):

Menu
00:00:00.000 : en:Chapter 00 <<---
00:03:57.779 : en:Chapter 01
00:07:05.425 : en:Chapter 02
00:09:19.183 : en:Chapter 03
00:13:34.146 : en:Chapter 04
00:14:22.319 : en:Chapter 05

Every one of the dozen or so BluRays I've ripped so far to test has begun Chapter 00 whereas every DVD has correctly begun Chapter 01.

I'd really like this fixed as it's a pain to have to edit every single chapter name after ripping.

What do you use to edit the chapter names?

MKVtoolnix.

Since I wrote this I've actually found a couple of DVDs where the chapter names have ended up starting from 0 as well!

I see this is still doing this. So far 100% of my blu-ray disks are starting with 00 instead of 01, so it doesn't seem like the "0" chapter is deleted in 99% of cases.

+1. I've ripped about 50 Blu-rays lately and, without fail, they've started at Chapter 00.

DVDs, on the other hand, just work.

+1....Blu rays all start at 00 for me too. It's strange to see because I play my MKVs on a Popcorn Hour, which temporarily displays the chapter number on the screen when I manually skip to a different chapter in a movie, and this display and what the MKV says the chapter is is always off by one. The MKV starts at 00 and my Popcorn Hour starts at 01 (as it should). So on my TV, the display says something like "01: Chapter 00".

I have the exact same issue with every one of my rips... MPC-HC reports chapter 1/0, 2/1, 3/2, etc. The MKV is always off by one compared to the original disc.
