PM for newbies

Hello everyone, getting acclimated here and read somewhere that new users in the forum need to have a certain amount of posts or something of that nature before being able to receive/send PM.

Just wanted to double check to ensure I'm not wasting anyone's time.

Yes, there is a minimum number of public messages required before a new user can send private messages. That is to protect people from getting spammed in PMs by hidden users. And yes, it was added several years ago because it was a severe problem.
