Dolby Vision and Atmos

#1 Post by Rollie74 » Wed Oct 09, 2024 2:29 pm

I'm new to this, and thinking of backing up my 4k UHD discs to play on my new Zidoo. Most all of my disks are 4k and Atmos. I don't want to lose any quality in ripping the backup. Will this be an issue using makemkv?

MakeMKV will make a 1:1 copy of what's on the disc, including the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos data.

I don't have any experience with Zidoo, so I don't know if it will be able to play it. The only way I'm aware of to properly play profile 7 Dolby Vision MEL or FEL with full audio passthrough is with CoreElec on hardware with a supported Amlogic SoC.

If profile 7 is not natively supported and you don't want to use coreElec you should rip to folder instead of mkv and then create an ISO from the folders with Imgburn. But DoVi and Atmos are not issues.
