Can MakeMKV act as a background tool like AnyDVD, XReveal, etc?

For example, AnyDVD or XReveal sits in the tray and when a Blu-ray disc is inserted it'll work its magic and I can then play the disc with VLC irrespective of the disc's region, etc.

Can MakeMKV act in the same way as AnyDVD or XReveal?

Yeah look in the settings and the integration tab
