HD audio track question

#1 Post by sliu2005 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 7:46 pm

after BD disc analysis, makemkv showed a "DTS-HD Lossless English" audio track, along with a child item "DTS 3+2/1 English", which is the DTS 5.1 core. My question is, if I only want DTS-HD, should I check both, or just check DTS-HD? if I check both, VLC shows two audio tracks, does that mean makemkv extracted DTS 5.1 and added back to the mkv file, thus increased audio size? let's say original DTS-HD consumes 3GB storage, of which DTS 5.1 core uses 0.5GB. so if I check both, the result mkv file will have 3.5GB audio, is my understanding correct?

thanks for the reply. It is still nice to know whether check both would increase file size. if yes, then I will always check HD audio only. If no, then it is better to have both because some players or codecs are not compatible with HD audio tracks. any ideas?
