is libredrive necessary for regular blue-ray?

Do I need a libredrive for only 4k Blu-ray? Would any regular Blu-ray burner for regular Blu-rays need it?

No, a regular BD drive can handle standard BDs just fine. It's only when you have UHDs that you NEED LibreDrive. Drive manufacturers weren't so stupid as to disable their drives for "regular" BDs.

Well, that's good news, between my lack of ability to view 4k content, and the storage space and time it would take to rip then downscale a 4K disk.
