Rips have no linked audio in Adobe Premiere

#1 Post by Orange » Sun Oct 22, 2023 12:25 am

When I remux a movie from MKV to MP4, and drag it into my timeline in Adobe Premiere there's no linked audio (no audio at all). Also when I play the movie through anything but VLC there's no audio, but the Premiere issue is more important. Is there a way to fix it?

VLC will deal with a LOT of different audio types in a file being played back. You should view the contents of the MKV first, to find out what type the audio is. MakeMKV has no control over what you are doing with the conversion to MP4, so that can be an issue.

Adobe Premiere can also handle a number of audio types, but it doesn't cover all the types that VLC can handle.

I've tried 7.1, 5.1, DTS HD. They all have the same issue.

Doing a quick search on Adobe, I see mention of using ffmpeg to convert some audio formats to be Adobe-compatible, including DTS. With ffmpeg, you're able to convert from MKV to MP4 at the same time, so that may be a solution for you.
