Bottleneck when ripping from ISOs on disk?
i've got a large collection of ISOs i want to rip to MKV. where are the bottlenecks, and what areas of improvement/practices give the biggest benefit? should the source and destination files be on different drives? would it help much if one or both were NVMe SSDs? how much does amount of system memory, CPU cores, and CPU clock speed come into play? and even with a premium setup, how much time could you really save with a typical ~40GB rip over a decent setup? i.e. is this worth thinking about at all?

Two SSD drives gives is the best improvement. CPU power or mainstrorage is not the problem.

Back in 2011, with a Q9650 CPU I ripped an ISO from one mechanical hardrive to another mechanical harddrive at a speed of 80MB/s, which was probably approaching the maximum sustained transfer rate of those drives (the weren't new).
A 40GB ISO would have taken 8 minutes. Faster drives with that CPU would have seen an improvement, add a faster CPU and I would expect things to get faster still.
