Question about Cinavia

#1 Post by boe_d » Sun Jan 15, 2017 12:10 am

Hello,

I converted inferno for an MKV from a BD. I have a new Oppo 203 and it popped up with a cinavia warning. I'm not complaining about the 203 or makemkv, I'm just trying to get up to speed. The older oppo 103 does not have this issue when streaming the same MKV file. Is this something that is unavoidable with some BD conversions or is there something I can do?

Thanks

With MakeMKV, there's nothing you can do, because it is going to faithfully copy the audio from the source to the MKV file. It's the audio itself that is the problem.

I see you've found the main Cinavia topic here, with pretty much everything there is to know, from the MakeMKV side.

Players built before Feb 2013 did not have to detect Cinavia.

Here's the deal with Oppo players:

The BDP-103/105 only enforce Cinavia via disc playback.

The UDP-203/205 enforce Cinavia via:

- disc playback
- attached USB storage in any container
- DLNA playback in any container
- network playback in any container

However - if you have an external HTPC that decodes the MKV and feeds the audio/video to the Oppo's HDMI input, Cinavia is NOT enforced.
