MKV 1.9.9 Application Failed To Initialize

Post by mkvsmurf71 »

Sorry if this has appeared somewhere else before, as I done a search and got nothing relating to this issue.

I have uninstalled previous version and rebooted PC, installed 1.9.9 Beta again rebooted and each time I try to open the application I keep getting a Popup Box which say Application Failed to Initialize. I have never had this problem with other versions, my PC has not had a Windows Update or anything so cannot explain why this is happening, so I hope someone else can shed any light on this issue, and hopefully have a solution .

Thanks in advance

Try this. If your normal user account isn't an administrator, you will have to do it logged in with an administrator account.

Uninstall MakeMKV.

Reboot, log in.

Go to the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\ with explorer.

Delete anything you find there, with the exception of any customized profiles; they will be listed as being type "xml".

Empty your recycle bin.

Install 1.9.0.

"Fail to initialize" can come from two scenarios... First is missing files, second is mixed versions of files. It is actually rather easy to get mixed versions... if you're too quick with telling the installer to continue before the uninstall finishes, a file can be installed just before the uninstaller deletes it, or an old file could be there that blocked the installation of the new one. Unfortunately, the prompt to continue the install often covers up the prompt to uninstall....

Thanks for the reply Woodstock

I uninstalled then rebooted, deleted all content in recycle bin, looked for the directory nothing there, reinstalled the version 1.9.0 and ran the programme same problem persists. This is frustrating cause it seems despite other version which worked, why is it some updates cause more problems than ever before?

We will have to wait for Mike on this one, then. It is possible that there is a file missing on the operating system side, or something that MakeMKV is being denied access to.

Below is the list of files showing in my 1.9.0 installation, minus my edited profiles:

Please try running makemkvcon.exe (or makemkvcon64.exe) from the command line and see what happens.

If you're running Windows 7, try this:
1. Go into control panel--->uninstall/install programs--->look for makemkv in programs list and click UNINSTALL.
2. After it finishes uninstalling, exit control panel.
3. Navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/MakeMKV and DELETE ENTIRE FOLDER MakeMKV (not just the contents). This step is to ensure that there is NO MakeMKV FOLDER at all in the directory Program Files (x86).
4. Then empty the recycle bin & restart the computer.
5. Once you rebooted to your desktop, go ahead and install MakeMKV 1.9.9.
6. After installation completes, reboot computer.
7. After rebooting, launch MakeMKV and see if it works.

Hope this helps coz thats all I can think of. 8)

Add to that, delete the MakeMKV_log.txt log and the .MakeMKV folder in c:\Users\* then run RegEdit and delete the MakeMKV key (Making sure you've saved you registration key first, of course).

I'm not even sure if I'm being serious or not.

(and its MakeMKV v1.9.0 win(x64-release) NOT 1.9.9...)
