Feature Request: Disable automatic disk scan

Post by Dude69 »

I often use my DVD drive for ripping disks, it takes a long time. Same time I might fire up MakeMKV to work no images. Problem is, MakeMKV will always automatically scan the disk drive. It not only interrupts the process but also delays me using MakeMKV. Thanks for considering this option.

I vote for this with a small clarification: The scanning (what is automatic today) and analysis (which requires an action today) should be configurable such that one can toggle automatic mode for both.

+1

For my typical usage the automatic disk scan is useless and makes me wait every time I start MakeMKV.

I too would like to have an option to disable the automatic disc scan.

Please add this feature. I use other tools to work with physical media, with MakeMKV working almost exclusively with ISO files. MakeMKV's automatic behaviour causes seek conflicts, disrupting the other program.

How I currently workaround this problem:

I have a dummy ISO file that I mount as a virtual drive. I have MakeMKV's "single drive" mode enabled, and tell it to use the virtual drive when it opens.

It would be nice to just have a checkbox in the MakeMKV config to disable that behaviour instead of deflecting unwanted behaviour with a hack.

I too would like to see an option to disable automatic disc scanning.

Thank you for considering this feature.

Exclusive mode won't work for this, because the goal is to go directly to ripping images on the hard drive. Exclusive mode just limits how many drives are "inconvenienced" getting there.

Adding a +1 for this. I rip everything to ISO first and since I have two drives if I get a 2-disc set then I can't start MakeMKV until the second ISO has finished ripping or it can cause problems with the drive that's active.

And a +1 from me too. The automatic DVD drive scan when I start makemkv is a nuisance and adds unnecessary delay. I only use makemkv to convert already-ripped DVDs which are stored on a hard drive. It's okay if auto-scan is the default when makemkv is downloaded, but I'd like to be able to change that behaviour on a permanent basis.

It's been 10 years and this is still an issue. How hard can it be to add something like this?
