State of the forum

Post by Woodstock »

This forum is owned and operated by Mike Admin to support MakeMKV.

Now, Mike can't be around all the time, so he has set up a couple of people (myself included) to manage the forum and keep riff-raff off that are trying to fool people into compromising their accounts across internet, or trying to hide links to compromised sites promising gaming knowledge or gold bullion or ???

To that end, new accounts can send messages, but they won't be readable until one of us has reviewed them.

Until they reach general posting capability, they also cannot send private messages. That is something we assistants cannot change.

But, we assistants are also not constantly available. Personally, I recently had emergency heart surgery, and was gone for almost two weeks. I'm working my way back, but using a non-standard (for me) computer for the next couple of months during rehab. This is much better than when there wasn't any assistant, otherwise you'd still be looking for messages.

The recent key crisis was a problem. Neither assistant could respond to your messages, because we did not know any more than you did. What we now know (so far) is that Mike was unavailable when the last beta key expired, and the keys he'd supplied to PayPro ran out (apparently, they don't generate keys like some payment places do). So things got ugly until Mike swooped in and fixed them. That is the power of a master SYSOP.

So, all of that said, we'd appreciate it you only post your message ONCE (not a copy every hour, like some people have done), and it will appear when one of us gets a chance to see and review it. We do not announce on the forum when we're going to be away for a bit, but do try to coordinate matters so that the forum is checked at least once per day. This isn't our paying job; it's something we do to support the community.
