Was in love with product UNTIL!!!!

Post by death69inc »

I ripped some of my episode collection for my media pc program was fast and quility was great till i notcied they where no longer widescreen.
the program keeps changing the aspect from 16:9 to 4:3 .. sucks because as stated i liked the speed and quility of images. was on the buy it button page when i noticed the bars on the sides.... this gets fixed any widescreen media rips to 16:9 ill buy the proggie but its useless to me without widescreen.

Um. Post a media info output for both the original media and your MKV output. I'm willing to bet the streams haven't been changed but your player is causing the "issue".

no in makemkv the video is showing up as 4:3 instead of 16:9 (720x480)
handbrake shows it fine (takes 13 min to encode 23 min episode and doesnt look as nice much movment lines)

but makemkv wont give me 16:9 I have searched and found many post with same issue sucks as its a great program other than that fact

I have yet to have an episode dvd coem up widescreen in makemkv have not trried a movie i will shortly

checked a dvd movie came up just fine 16:9
hmmm
trying another series see if it does it

hmm well stargat sg1 comes up 16:9
maybe it doesnt like the other series I was trying to rip shrugs

question is how to get mkv file to change from 4:3 to 16:9 as its not cut off they are taller and thinner with black side bars lol

Most likely has nothing to do with MakeMKV. With a number of Media players and Different brands of TVs I'm always running into similar problems with different resolutions (640,720,1440,1980) Each player or TV seems to like to display in its own way.

I have to use the MKVtoolNix header editor for my (1440x1080) 720p videos on one of my 1080p TVs because it wants to display as 4/3. Plays fine on my other TV and on my computer. So, I just use the Toolnix header editor to set the display width as 1920 instead of 1440. Takes just a minute to do and now they work just fine.

The Header editor has 2 video width items The first is what it is, the second is how you want it displayed.

Hope this helps you.

On DVD aspect ratio information is stored in TWO places - as a property of MPEG2 stream and as a property in IFO file. Normally they should match but sometimes studios encode mpeg2 stream incorrectly and put a correct aspect ratio flag in IFO file. MakeMKV puts aspect ratio flag from IFO to MKV but most players ignore this field and use one from MPEG2 video stream. MakeMKV never changes video streams. With your player there is very little you can do short of re-encoding in handbrake.

I have seen this before so when it happened I used mkvmerge to set the proper aspect ration.
