question about ripping anime Blurays with makemkv+16D1HT/BH16NS40 latest firmware

so the titles pretty much says it all, before i buy a 16D1HT/BH16NS40 i have two questions:
1) if i buy a 16D1HT/BH16NS40 drive, update it to the latest firmware, with MakeMKV i can rip any 1080p Bluray anime discs i want? there's nothing else i need? lower firmware, other software etc.?
2) which one should i get? 16D1HT or BH16NS40? form what i see, the Asus one reads faster but i've seen a lot of reviews saying that the LG one dies quicker, anybody has any experience with this?
