1.7.5 Crash after reading disc

Post by cigamit »

I have seen this reported elsewhere (its been happening to me for several versions), but no responses from the reporters after Mike asks for a dump.

Basically, I will put a DVD in either of my drives. MakeMKV will scan it, pull all the title info, and say operation successful, and then will throw up the "Fatal error occurred, program will now exit" error.

Both the makemkv.exe and makemkvcon64.exe process stay running in the background with 0% CPU. As soon as you hit OK on the error, makemkv.exe will immediately take up 100% of 1 CPU. You then have to manually kill it.

Platform: Windows 7 x64
Drives: TSSTcorp DVD+-RW and ASUS BC-12B1ST (happens on either of them)
MakeMKV Version: 1.7.0 - 1.7.5
DVDs: Any, this randomly happens it seems, but when it does, it then doesn't matter what DVD I put in the drive, it will always crash from then on out (then randomly a few days later it seems to work fine again).

My C:\Users\Jimmy\.MakeMKV\ directory is empty. Uninstalling / Reinstalling does not help. Disabling AntiVirus has no effect. I have done over 500 or so DVDs / Bluerays with these drives without issue before.

Log File
Dump File
That particular dump file was for Lost S1 Disk 1

Is your hard drive especially busy at the time of the crash?

I noticed that if I tried to use MakeMKV in Windows 7 while my hard drive was busy it'd throw the fatal error message.

No, my HDs are basically idle. I have 2 drives
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache
OCZ Vertex 2 90GB
both of which are extremely fast.

Another thing to note. If I use the command line instead of the GUI, it scans the DVD and rips it just fine.

I'm sure when Mike sees this thread he'll comment.

This is a bug - for some reason a time-out happens during communication between GUI and makemkvcon. Even if the system is busy, it shouldn't happen. Will investigate.
