impossible to compile working MakeMKV

Post by fmfischer »

I tried to build my own MakeMKV 1.18.2 on these systems:

"rapid"
cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Linux Mint"
VERSION="22.2 (Zara)"
ID=linuxmint
ID_LIKE="ubuntu debian"
PRETTY_NAME="Linux Mint 22.2"
VERSION_ID="22.2"
HOME_URL="https://www.linuxmint.com/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://forums.linuxmint.com/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="http://linuxmint-troubleshooting-guide. ... en/latest/"
PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://www.linuxmint.com/"
VERSION_CODENAME=zara
UBUNTU_CODENAME=noble

"dalkop"
cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 25.10"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION_ID="25.10"
VERSION="25.10 (Questing Quokka)"
VERSION_CODENAME=questing
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
HOME_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://help.ubuntu.com/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/"
PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and- ... acy-policy"
UBUNTU_CODENAME=questing
LOGO=ubuntu-logo

"atso"
cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 25.10"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION_ID="25.10"
VERSION="25.10 (Questing Quokka)"
VERSION_CODENAME=questing
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
HOME_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://help.ubuntu.com/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/"
PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and- ... acy-policy"
UBUNTU_CODENAME=questing
LOGO=ubuntu-log

On the first two it works splendidly. On the last it crahes with segfault or hangs forever with hogging one of the CPUs at 100%.

I've tried several tricks, but on "atso" I have no idea, how to make it work.
BTW: Is there a working beta key for new installattions?

Merry Christmas!

Fixed it myself: Exchanged the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS70 DVD burner on "atso" with another one and MakeMKV worked just as indended. MakeMKV has got no idea how to handle this device, obviously.
