Has anyone else had an issue where there's a break/pause in the decoded video that's a handful of seconds long, then the rest of the video looks pristine?
Wondering if it could be my bluray drive. Looks like it's not an issue with playback program, as VLC and Windows Media Player have the same issue. Also looks like it's not an issue with downstream transcoding, as the ripped file is where the problem shows up first.
I'm also leaning away from is it a question of if there's load on the computer otherwise that's causing the issue, as I just ran this rip with nothing else happening.
I've noticed the issue with other rips I've done. Pretty disappointed that I'm not getting seconds ~ten through 20 of the video.

I think I may have fixed my own issue. It might be my hard drive. I tested by ripping instead to an SSD and didn't have the problem.
Here's a breakdown of the two scenarios and what happens in each one.
Scenario 1: Rip to Hard Drive (HDD)
Bluray drive spins up and starts pumping out data to be written to the destination.
Hard drive realizes it needs to spin up to start receiving data at speed.
Hard drive's write buffer tries to pick up the slack, but runs out before the physical platter is spun up, because video is lots of data.
Dropped frames ensue.
Hard drive finally catches up and the rest of the incoming stream is captured fine. Assuming no large load is put on the hard drive during the rest of the rip.
Scenario 2: Rip to SSD
Similar to the above, except the SSD doesn't have to spin up, and write stream is never interrupted.
This was a tricky one for me to diagnose. I wonder if there's a way for the program to help the user understand what's happening. Or maybe there already is and I didn't see it trying to help me!
