Why is only the audio ripped?

Post by themujahadeen »

So I just started using makemkv with a Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD drive (manufactured June 23, running latest firmware) and I've had no success ripping any of my DVD's or Blu-Rays. Everytime I try, I get an mkv output of the full audio track from the movie but no video. I've tried with several DVD's, same result. In the case of the Blu-ray I tried, I got just the video and no audio. Has anyone else dealt with this before? I'd appreciate any help or pointers here.
Cheers!

VLC works fine for playback, however, my issue is with creating an .mkv file from the discs within MakeMKV

There's a handy utility called MediaInfo that'll print out lots of details about .mkv files, including the audio and video tracks in the file.

What does it say about the .mkv files that MakeMKV creates?

It seems the video is in the file, else it wouldn't show up. So the question is, why can't it play?

This seems odd (to me, anyways?).

Wait - latest manufacturer firmware or latest patched firmware? If manufacturer I'd recommend browsing the forum for the patched firmware & flash that instead.

Also, as everyone stated the video seems to be in the file you're quoting; what program are you using to play back the .mkv files?

I am using VLC to playback the files. I was also unable to successfully save the video from the disc through VLC. The progress bar at the bottom would just run infinitely. I am running the firmware that came installed via the manufacturer. I have not flashed anything myself. Is this model able to be?

I feel stupid. Yes, the mkv is playable with VLC after all. Not sure why Windows media player doesn't like it.
