evening all,
I recently purchased MakeMkv to backup my UHD movies but not a single one has worked so far. My drive is a Verbatim slim 43888 UHD drive which is working as expected and MakeMkv is detecting the discs. I've now submitted 6 movie dumps, Gladiator,LOTR Fellowship extended, Fifth element, Marvel Doctor strange, Shawshank redemption and Casino Royale. There seems to be no keys for the movies I have, and my connection to hkdata seems to be working. I've read the unknown key thread. A Blu-ray backup has been succesful.
Am I just unlucky? Or do all UHD movies need dumps because none of mine work. I think I'm doing something wrong?
Am I doing something wrong?

When you start MakeMKV and put one of the troublesome disks in, what does it say about retrieving the HKDATA file?

Re: Am I doing something wrong?
When I put in a UHD disc I get no information about the disc until the scan has finished. Then disc and drive details appear on the right/info side. At the bottom there is Makemkv 1.17.5 has started. There is no mention of HKdata. Nothing really happens after the scan, my drive spins up and down and just continues like that.
only options for me is open disc or backup. Volume key unknown etc but no mention of hkdata.
Re: Am I doing something wrong?
Hopefully you have internet access enabled on the General tab of MakeMKV's preferences.
Assuming you do, there might be something in your network or your ISP's network blocking access to where MakeMKV downloads the necessary keys to decrypt UHDs.

Re: Am I doing something wrong?
Yes internet access is enabled and I ran the nslookup command to test and got back what looks correct. My pc's dns is set 8.8.8.8 and I see no error for hkdata not being received. I will try again in the morning. Thank you to everyone replying.dcoke22 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 11:54 pmHopefully you have internet access enabled on the General tab of MakeMKV's preferences.

Re: Am I doing something wrong?
I have found a workaround. It was indeed a HKdata/SDF problem at my end. perhaps something can be added to Makemkv to alert of possible HKdata issues? As said earlier I got no errors in the log screen and a nslookup and hosts file was tested and seemed to work but didn't completely work for me. My solotion was to tether a mobile network and bypass my home network.
