Makemkv only opens dvd's

I have just downloaded V1.9.4 and I cannot select movies from my external hard drive, only my dvd player. Help

More information is necessary. WHAT are you trying to open from your hard drive? An ISO of a disk, made by another program? A file containing video?

Generally speaking, if you already have an image of a disk on your hard drive, you might not need MakeMKV to process it further. But MakeMKV can work with some file types as sources for extracting video, such as ISO files, Bluray backups, and similar. The methods used vary, though.

The 1.9.4 version only finds my dvd player as the source, it does not find my external HDD as a source only a destination. My mate copied quite a few films in .TS format and I want to combine them into one MKV file

MakeMKV doesn't open .ts files, it only opens DVD and Blu Ray discs and images as well as MKVs.

If you need to remux any other file type (other than WMV) you should use MKVMerge from MKVToolNix.
