How To Demux 3D MKV? UPDATE-found solution

Post by duppzy »

yo buddies,

So I am trying to find out what I am doing wrong. Before I get into details let me say what my end goal is. I have a 3D title and I am trying to demux to obtain the Left and Right Eye .264/AVC Encode Files.

1. Putting the disc in and running MakeMKV, I receive a message that title 06 is equal to title 04 and was skipped.

2. In MakeMKV, I selected Title 04 and I also select Mpeg4-MVC-3D Box plus the audio.

4. After completion, I run the mkv file through a demuxer (tsmuxer). But only 1 .264 file is available. Reviewing the file I am assuming it is the Left Eye only.

5. This is where I am stuck and can not find a solution for the right eye.

Question, am I using the wrong demuxer? Or am I missing a step.

Any help will be awesome.

Is this something that not a lot of people do? Or is MakeMKV not the right solution to obtain the Left and Right Eye Encoded files?

I am not worried about playback or if my 3D Soft Player works or not. I just need to find a way to obtain the individuals eyes.

That's not how 3D MVC video is stored on blu-ray. There is no separate eye.

Mike, I may have been referring to the Base MVC and the Dependent MVC. MY 3D encoder calls them Left and Right Eye.

I thought for sure this information was stored inside one of the m2ts?

This is why I assumed, MakeMKV told me it skipped Title 06 because it was equal to Title 04. Reviewing the disc information Title 04 was only 1GB big and title 06 was 7GB.

Oh, I see. In MKV file they are interleaved - each MKV frame has base AVC frame followed by MVC frame - or better to say all AVC NAL units followed by all MVC nal units related to the same frame. In order to demux, one has to filter by NAl id during extraction. I'm not sure if there is a tool to do so.

Re: How To Demux 3D MKV? - cant with mkv but other software

Mike,

Wanted to give an update as I was able to resolve and verify these steps work. Since I am not able to demux MKV I had to use an alternative.

Ripped the entire Blu-Ray with WinX Blu-Ray Decrypter (this program is no longer supported and the acss update stopped at 25). DVDFab 9 BD Copy will also work.

Demuxed the streams with BD Demuxer Pro 3D V2.4 (expensive software).

From there I was able to obtain the Base and Dependent Eyes (AVC and MVC Files).

I was able to re-author the 2 files and verified on a 3D TV (any model will work) it plays back perfectly.

Long story short there I wasnt able to find a cheap alternative. But this accomplishes what I needed.
Hope this helps others.

I don't know where you've been looking but the free alternative is ripping the movie to HDD with DVDfab (rip function stays free) and then using TsMuxer3D and MKVToolnix.
