I wasn't sure where to write this, but I noticed that all of the connections to the MakeMKV website in the application are http rather than https. I also seem to recall the URL in the material regarding updates being http.
Wouldn't it be quite easy to fix?

Yes, it is probably an easy fix.
One possibility, though, is that the author can't control what the user's system has installed on it. I have experience with some software that won't allow HTTPS connections to some domains, which is STUPID, but happens. If you try the links that use HTTP, the browser will usually try converting them to HTTPS, which works.
(That said, some links to sites that don't have an HTTPS version will fail in, say, chrome, because of this.)
