does one need to have Java installed

Hey there.

I just wondered, whether on needs OpenJDK (or JRE) installed for MakeMKV (respectively makemkvcon) do defeat all evilness?

Using it on Linux, I was already able to backup some BDs/UHDs with NO Java installed ... and still seemed to work.
There is however some config setting where on can specify the path for Java.

So would it be needed by MakeMKV to get around things like BD+/BD-J ... or is it rather even bad, cause spyware in the BD-J code may run?

Thanks,
Jemima.

It's not necessary to install Java to use MakeMKV to decrypt most discs, Java only helps to identify and label some tracks. BD+ discs do require Java to be installed to be decrypted.

More infor here. https://www.makemkv.com/bdjava/

btw: Thanks for that pointer :-)

Does anyone know whether makemkcon would warn or error if it would want to use java, but doesn't find it?
