MakeMKV UHD direct disc playback with Windows

Hi,

I tried to search but was not able to find anything. I have the paid version of MakeMKV.

While I am able to rip UHD disks and play them back fine using VLC, if I attempt to play the UHD disk directly using VLC I get stuttering and anywhere around the 1 hour mark the video will stop playing but the sound continues in the background.

Is their a solution to be able to watch a UHD title directly without first ripping it to my HD ?.

One possibility is that MakeMKV gets far enough ahead of playback that the disk stops, and needs to restart when the buffer is getting low. When not having to "slow down" to match another program, a lot of things can happen.

Assuming the drive can keep up, the stuttering sounds like it might be a bug, possibly fetching from cache vs. ring buffer or something related to makemkv.

I don't see how the video is black unless the player has bugged out. Try smplayer/mplayer or some other player to see if it goes black as well.
