Makemkv is up to 1.17.4 now if your using the free beta you have to update

Wow, Mavericks. That's a mighty old version of Mac OS. I think Yosemite, version 10.10, runs on all the same hardware that Mavericks (10.9) runs on.
In any case, the message you're seeing is Apple's Gatekeeper security system trying to prevent you from running MakeMKV.
Assuming you've downloaded MakeMKV from https://www.makemkv.com you should be able to go around Gatekeeper. I think you have to right-click (Control click) on MakeMKV in the Applications folder and pick open. That should give you a different dialog that is essentially asking, are you sure? You should be able to say yes and it should open. Then you shouldn't need to have to do it again, since Gatekeeper will remember the exception you've granted MakeMKV.
