Best alternative to BU40N drive?

Hey all,

so i've been using the BU40N for some time now (i don't rip a lot so never seen this before) and i had bought 2 seasons of a series(around 10 discs). I noticed that sometimes it is unable to rip a particular episode from the disc and it seems like the BU40N is scratching the disc for some reason. I checked the discs before i put them in and are all brand new & scratch free.

What is the best alternative to the BU40N that doesn't scratch the drive? i don't touch / move it at all when a disc is in it so i'm unsure why it happens.

That's unfortunate that your BU40N seems to be scratching some discs. In general, the BU40N is held in high regard. Perhaps your unit is suffering from some kind of failure.

In any case, the Flashing Guide is kept up to date with the list of LibreDrive compatible drives. Any of those drives should work well.

When people ask for a more specific recommendation I usually suggest a BU40N or a Pioneer drive (although the latest firmware on Pioneer drives is currently problematic).

But fyi disc scratching can be caused by a few preventable things
Make sure the drive gets enough power use a high powered USB hub like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0797 ... R7PE&psc=1
Putting dirty or scratched discs can also cause this.
Or moving it with a disc in it but you already covered that
