I recently sold 5x LG WH16NS40 to someone and they ended up returning.
Was fine with the return, but noticed drives had been flashed.
I sold them as stock FW 1.05, no modifications.
I honestly didn't know how to flash them, so left them alone.
Over past week have learned about flashing the drives.
I got them back:
4x had 1.02/1.03. Libre enabled.
1x 1.02-01
The first 4 work, the one with 1.02-01 no longer works.
Is FW 1.02-01" even a valid firmware? Can this be cause of possible brick?
I tried to recover 1.02-01 drive to FW to 1.05 NS50 using SDFtool.
It worked, but still won't read CD/DVD/BD.
I then flashed 1.02 MK and still won't read disc.
It starts to spin up, but doesn't get very loud.
Tried a couple different FW, but nothing changes.
Is the drive broken internally or possibly still bricked?
I am a bit suspicious since buyer mentioned this:
"1 of these has firmware loaded on it for the LG BU40N slim drive and thus is a brick, completely locked up, tray won't open etc."
Each drive was stock, so I know he was lying.
I even told them I tested them before shipping to burn/read BD disc.
He then said he was mistaken about that.
Any ideas on what else to try?
I've heard about DOSFlash, but unsure if it applies to my case.
Was my LG WH16NS40 incorrectly flashed/bricked?

for the one with BU40N fw you can try the recovery mode in sdfgui select a bu40n fw then an desktop one to flash
Buy a UHD drive from the guide and how to video maker: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 20&t=17831

Still new to this, so a bit lost.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 3:06 amfor the one with BU40N fw you can try the recovery mode in sdfgui select a bu40n fw then an desktop one to flash
The non working one has been updated, doesn't show BU40N fw.
Would flashing wrong firmware still allow drive to eject.
It would just not read disc?(like mine is now)
How can I know it's a bad flash and not hardware issue?

Are you sure these are the same drives you sent out and not a top swap

I suspected that too.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 8:50 pmAre you sure these are the same drives you sent out and not a top swap
The serials match, as far as I can tell.
I also remember it has a code, maybe from the factory in the back.(where sata port is)
DL23C
The other 4 drives look to be working fine.
I flashed them to 1.02 MK WH16NS60, can rip/read 4k bluray fine.
I guess the one positive, I learned more about the drives.
I've sold a couple drives, no one else mentioned any issues.
