what is the key for makemkv ?

Says the makemkv key expires March 23 2023.
I'm new here, first post. How is that used to download?

Your questions do not make a lot of sense. You do not need to download a key until the current one expires, and that's only if you're using the temporary key still Those of us who bought a key do not have to replace it every 2 months.

The amount of disk space needed by MakeMKV itself does not change over time by much (new features need more space, but that's a separate issue). What takes up lots of space is what you use MakeMKV to extract - a UHD Bluray can take up to 100MB of space, for example.

I was confused by the key so if there's a direct download link for the freeware version,
could you put it in here?

Perhaps I was using smaller HDs in the old days.

Um, there is only one download. It's whether or not you have a valid key that decides whether you're running the registered or non-registered version. The key you can download works through the end of March; the one you can buy doesn't expire.

Sometimes, the software download is older than 2 months, and you have to insert the latest non-registered key to run it. That key has a permanent message in the first forum here, that is updated every two months.

I did manage to get Makemkv 1.7 something so I'll have a chance to experiment
with it again.
