Hi,
I have searched the forums but find no help regarding this.
I have been using MAKEMKV for a few years but only just upgraded to Atmos / DTS-X setup.
My ATMOS and DTS-X Ripps contain no metadata that they are Atmos?
Neither Plex, Kodi nor my AVR detect that its Atmos even though it is. If I examine the metadata in Plex or VLC both show True HD but no mention of Atmos.
What am I missing here, because MakeMKV shows Atmos exists before I rip?
Thanks

Re: missing Atmos & DTS-X metadata
A Dolby TrueHD audio track isn't necessarily a Dolby Atmos audio track.
Dolby TrueHD vs Atmos: What’s the Difference?
When I use MediaInfo to look at a .mkv file that has an Atmos audio track, I see something like this:

Re: missing Atmos & DTS-X metadata
Thank You.
Yes I realise not all True HD are Atom.
Using your tool suggested I examined one of my 4k rips with Atmos and the good news is it does contain Atmos as below.
So maybe I need to move forums here, but why does plex not show it contains Atmos, and when played using passthrough my receiver shows the source as True HD?

Re: missing Atmos & DTS-X metadata
Is your Plex client capable of playing Dolby Atmos? I don't have a Dolby Atmos capable system, so I haven't had to go down this path.
As I'm sure you're aware, there's a lot of requirements to get this all to work. Dolby Atmos has to go over a fast enough HDMI cable (one capable of 4K video) to the receiver (or to the TV but the TV has to support eARC to get the Dolby Atmos out to your receiver {again over a fast enough HDMI cable}). Searching on the internet, you get a lot of answers about which client hardware does and does not support Dolby Atmos.
By design, Dolby Atmos is extra data in the stream that can be ignored and dropped on the floor by any device that doesn't understand what Dolby Atmos is or doesn't have a high enough bandwidth connection to send the data.
