Where are my decrypted files

Post by searay »

Hi. I want to back up my Blue-ray movies.

I purchased MakeMKV because it was recommended for copying my blue-ray discs. I was also told to use ImgBurn to burn the MakeMKV files.

I have a problem. The only files I can find after MakeMKV copies the blue-ray disc is a .tgz file. ImgBurn cannot use this type of file. I've been getting help from some nice folks at a video forum. They say I should find "BDMV" and "CERTIFICATE" files created by MakeMKV. These are the files ImgBurn needs to burn to my blank blue-ray discs. I cannot find these files anywhere on my computer.

What am I doing wrong here? I've been trying to figure this out for several days with no success and am completely frustrated. Did I waste my $50? The version of MakeMKV I am using is 1.10.3.

Thanks in advance for any help.

When you did the backup, there was a directory listed as the target of the backup. You should find the backup IN that directory, in a directory named for the disk.

For example, in my setup, the default directory for backups is "Z:\BACKUP". Any disk I back up will have a directory in there that contains the files from the BD, after a successful backup. If the disk was named "Cross Ange", there will be a directory named "Cross Ange" that has the BDMV and other directories.

Been there, done that.

Well, in my MakeMKV settings, my default destination directory is C:\Users\Jim/.MakeMKV. This is what I find in that directory:

(I tried to upload a cut and paste of the directory contents but got a message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." so I'll have to type it.)

MKB_v25_JURASSIC_PARK_DOM.tgz 12/9/2016 TGZ File 15KB
MKB_v58_PETES_DRAGON.tgz 12/11/2016 TGZ File 15KB

So where else could the files be? I've done a search on my computer and these are the ONLY MKB files found. Something's wrong and it's driving me nuts!

Load a BD. Click on "Backup". What directory shows up under "Please specify output directory"?

For the disk I loaded to test this, I get "z:/backup/Perfect Insider BD-2", because the disk is named "Perfect Insider BD-2". That means MakeMKV is defaulting to putting my backups under "z:/backup", or Z:\backup if you're looking in Windows Explorer.

Woodstock!!!!! That's it!!!! The files are not being saved to the default directory!!! :D

OMG, thank you for telling me to do that. I have no idea why my Windows Explorer did not find the BDMV or CERTIFICATE FILES.

I think I'm good to go. Will post back when I actually try to burn a BR disc.
