I have a vast collection of DVDs that I've bought over the years and have backed up as many of them on my computer as possible with DVDDecrypter. I hadn't really been too worried about getting the others backed up until I had a small fire. I found MakeMKV and tested making back ups of a a couple that DVDDecrypter couldn't back up. I have had no problems reading any of my DVDs with my BluRay drive or my DVD drive until I made a copy of Iron Man 2 and 3. Now neither of my drives will mount any other of my uncopyable DVDs. What gives. Why are my drives suddenly not able to play DVDs that had no problems in the past?
I'm sorry if this is a repeat. I've been searching some but haven't found a similar topic (yet).
BluRay and DVD drive problems
Re: BluRay and DVD drive problems
It would help to have the log, which will tell us what types of errors are being encountered.
Drives can fail, but two failing at the same time would be highly unusual. And DVD drives do not have key revocation "features" like BD drives to, so reading one disk should not make reading another impossible.

Re: BluRay and DVD drive problems
My problem is that I can't even load a DVD in my Blu-Ray drive any more. I thought it was only the highly encrypted ones but it won't play any now. It tries to load but after a little while it says there is no disc in the drive. That's odd because I've used it with no problems for several months now. What is a "revocation feature"? Can I undo that? Did I just flush a Blu-Ray drive down the toilet?
There is something funky going on with my DVD drive. It's old so I'm thinking that maybe there is a physical problem with it. I have it connected with a IDE to USB adapter and I've had to power it down and back up once or twice and then it will read my disks. I've used it several times to make physical copies of a DVD and had no problems. But I only used it after I had just powered it up and only to make a single copy. I have a few others that I've taken to work and I will get one of them back and see if it does anything similar. Hopefully I still have a chance to back up the remainder of my collection. I'll wait until I get a drive that reacts reliably before I try to make other copies.'
By The Way I did enable the log but it doesn't show anything because the Blu-Ray drive won't successfully load a disc.

"No disk" is a very tricky issue, because it can come from the operating system or the drive. When was the last time you did a FULL reset (as in powered everything down) on this machine? I've had drives go off-line and stay off-line through reboots, that were just fine after they (and the motherboard!) had been fully reset. Since a lot of machines no longer have a reset button on their cases, the only way to do a full reset is to power them down.

Re: BluRay and DVD drive problems
Thanks. Come to figure out there was a disc that is damaged beyond repair and it was making my drives go haywire. Both had to be powered down after I put that disc in the drives. I had never seen that in a drive but I'm guessing that something was pointing to a sector that was not eve available or something and making the drives stop responding. I was worried that maybe it was this software but it was a damaged disc.
