Anyway to combine external subtitles?

Post by ninety-nine_degrees »

Is there anyway to include external subtitles located on the hard disc into the mkv file? I'm trying to make an mkv of the German release of 9Rota, a Russian movie. The German BD has original Russian DTS Master Audio and German as the only subtitles. I got a perfect .srt of English subs, and they work fine in VLC player on my PC. But I'd like to play the mkv on my LG BD570 blu-ray player (which can play mkv files from a USB storage device) so I can watch it on my 1080p projector system & 100" screen and enjoy the Russian DTS MA through my receiver & speakers, but the BD570 player won't pick up the .srt subs, so if there was a way to tell makemkv to use the external subs, that would be prefect.

Figured it out - downloaded mkvtoolnix and used mkvmerge to merge the subtitle file with the video, now plays perfectly on the BD570 player with English subs for the Russian audio. But if MakeMKV could add an option to select an external subtitle file, that would save the extra step.
