Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
My AnyDVD HD 7.4.4.0 shows 00778.mpls as the correct playlist also.
Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
No problem; glad to help.Morgolking wrote:Thank you so much for the explanation!
Probably, but see below. So, if I can watch the movie in the right sequence, then I chose the right playlist right?
Usually the "extra" playlists are just a re-ordering of the regular scenes—this means no loss of quality since they're built from the actually movies pieces, just shuffled. However, it's certainly possible that the disc authors could use left over space for lower-quality clips.Am I right in assuming that there is no difference in audio or video quality between the playlists?
Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
Disposable9, you are my new hero! My daughter was given the same disk (UK BD/DVD/Ultraviolet) two days ago, just as you were posting your solution.Disposable9 wrote:The UK version seems to be different again.
I bought the Blu Ray / DVD / Ultravoilet version of The Hunger Games Catching Fire.
I did a complete backup with MakeMKV and then went through and matched up the segments visually against the retail disc playing. This segment order only matched one playlist 00699, which was title 114 for me.Code: Select all
Order Segment Duration Start Time 1 503 00:05:57 00:00:00 2 505 00:00:43 00:05:57 3 514 00:02:15 00:06:40 4 509 00:00:20 00:08:55 5 506 00:05:02 00:09:15 6 504 00:00:23 00:14:17 7 512 00:01:31 00:14:40 8 507 00:00:36 00:16:11 9 501 00:00:49 00:16:47 10 502 00:29:42 00:17:36 11 515 00:00:50 00:47:18 12 513 00:00:57 00:48:08 13 508 00:15:01 00:49:05 14 510 00:00:26 01:04:06 15 511 01:21:35 01:04:32 02:26:07 02:26:07
I gotta say obscuring which title is the movie is a pretty petty form of DRM. I waste a couple of hours figuring it out, so it hardly seems like it's really stopping anyone. Just makes it more unpleasant for genuine customers who want to rip these discs to there own media server.
I've spent an hour trawling the web, but all the posts are from the wrong side of the pond. I too have a 00699 playlist with exactly that segment map. Oddly it's title 113, not 114, but perhaps I'm running a slightly different minimum title length (120s) to you.
I'm ripping it now. Thank you again!

Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
I purchased the blu-ray/dvd/uv edition from Sainsbury's here in the UK and have a title 114 with mpls and segment map that match those you list. It ripped fine but I haven't watched it yet so fingers-crossed! Hopefully the segment numbering doesn't change across BRs, that would be an extra step of annoyance…Disposable9 wrote:The UK version seems to be different again.

Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
For what it's worth, I have the Best Buy retail version (Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD UV) and MakeMKV (in linux) is telling me that 861.mpls is the primary title.
I will rip this and check it out later. If it turns out incorrect, then perhaps I'll take the time to go through the full segment mapping as described above. The time duration is consistent with everyone else though - 2:26:14 and the segment map: 511,515,507,512,504,514,513,502,503,505,506,510,508,509,501

Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
On the Netflix DVD - I ripped all 5 titles that were large enough to be the actual movie. At first glance, all but title #3 do not have the correct length (runtime 146 minutes) or opening scene. Hope this helps
Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
In UK and have been through laborious (but free) process of finding correct playlist on UK Blu-ray. They have created a series of dummy playlists on the disc to discourage ripping.
Correct playlist is:
0699.mpls
Order of segments:
503
505
514
509
506
504
512
507
501
502
515
513
508
510
511
But I'm guessing this is probably only for this disc!

Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
Sorry - steps for the above were:
Rip the disc to HD (using Backup setting) in MakeMKV.
Open package contents (I'm on a mac) and then look through STREAM folder.
Copy over anything in there that looked like actual movie footage (all the 500s)
Watch them in turn in VLC and number them off in order (took AGES )
Note down from original STREAM folder on disc what the original files were called, using cross referenced file sizes (no duplicate sizes, thank goodness...)
Went through all the many playlists that come up on MakeMKV and finally found that one that had the required order (again, )
Set only that playlist to rip on MakeMKV
Converted that one to HD M4V using Handbrake (again, free)
Used subler to tag
Inserted into iTunes
Now 5.1 movie playable on Apple TV and transferrable to all Apple devices...
Worth the time? Maybe - at least I don't have iTunes DRM... And I still have the disc!

Here's what I found for UPC 0-31398-18152-1 (e.g., BD+DVD+Digital HD Combo package.
I bought it off of Ebay, brand new. After ripping & encoding this title, I watched all the way through. All the segments were in the correct order.
My MKV software shows this:

Re: Hunger Games Catching Fire BD - Which Playlist
The following has worked for me and is under windows. Yuo will need the following:
OpenedFilesView: Free (ask Google, made by Nir Sofer)
A bluray player: Free usually with drive-$60 (used arcsoft TMT6)
BDInfo:-free
MakeMKV: Free-$50 (worth the cash folks!!)
1)Run OpenFilesView and set the refresh interval to 1sec and apply a search for m2ts filter
2)Open TMT6 and navigate to the menu and select the title you want
3) in OpenfilesView watch for the open M2TS name and note it
4) forward around 8x (just forward, not chapter mode as each chapter may have multiple M2TS files) and note each change in M2TS file that is opened as this is the order they are played in. If you observe the % file read gauge you can speed up and slow down the forward speed as seen fit, but may result in a missed segmet.
5) In BDInfo Scan The disc and then look at the MPLS listings. Note the one that has the correct M2TS files order as this is the title.
6) In MakeMKV Pick the title that corresponds to the MPLS you picked in BDinfo. You can use it to look at the mpls list in MakeMKV but sometimes it goes 511,1,505,508,503,3,510 which makes it harder to pick the correct title (and it's just a double check).
This method has proven more accurate at least for me as it reduces the odds of bad sections that are the same time and documents the same order the Software is playing it in. As always crtique welcome and results may vary....Tested on Hunger Games 1 and 2 on a windows 7 box without anyDVD running. VM MACHINES WILL NOT WORK and will cause TMT6 and PowerDVD to exit
