Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Yeah there’s a LOT of tracks in there. So i’ll just rip the main first track then or do I rip the whole disk?
In fairness that thread is MASSIVE but i have read quite a bit!
Thanks pal!

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I've no idea which track is the "correct" one. I ripped it with a different program when I did my MKV backup. And as I don't care about Dolby Vision, I didn't bother keeping it in my backup. I seem to recall the track my program picked was shorter than the rest. I think like 1h:55m.
Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Can you confirm it's always a 1080P track though and it can't be a 4K one?

I think a picture will be worth more than works...hang on.
Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Here's a mediainfo report from the 00800.mpls (again, not sure if this is truly the right playlist but it hardly matters for what I'm showing). These are the streams embedded within the M2TS files. Notice Video #1 is the regular HVEC 4K video track with HDR10 and HDR10+ metadata embedded in it. Now, look at Video #2, which is another video stream embedded within the M2TS. Notice the dimensions of the track. That's the Dolby Vision metadata stream. So I have no idea what MakeMKV does with this. I was under the belief that it'd keep both video streams in the MKV. So on your output MKV, you can look and see if both video streams are there.

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Okay, so with the exception of it being 1920x1080 how is it identified as the dolby vision meta data? How do you know that's definitely it? And how do you know which m2ts file 00800mpls is embedded within to know which file you should be backing up?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I see it says it at the bottom of the details...
However, how do I know which is the correct mpls file that gives me the info of which file I need to backup?
There's 123 on the disc and I'm only finding audio information in each one so far, no video. Do I need to check each one manually to find the right one?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I know that's the Dolby Vision track because I've done my homework and learned about Dolby Vision.
If you're expecting it to jump out at you and say "I'm Dolby Vision, here I am" well, um, no. But a lot of effort has been put into Dolby Vision and I HAVE read every post in that thread. Which is why I know that's the proper metadata track.
As for the proper playlist, sorry, no idea on that one. My guess is you probably need java installed for MakeMKV to pick the proper one for this title. I use a different program to master my MKV's so I don't have to deal with "figuring out" the proper playlist. I find that to be annoying. LOL

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I use MakeMKV to make decrypted backup folders, and then process those with CloneBD.

I’ll check it out, thanks again buddy ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I presume you knew this question was coming (
) but it says it backs up ‘unprotected’ blu-rays and you say you use MakeMVK to decryt it.
So do you simply use MakeMKV to backup the whole disc to an MKV then run it through Clonebd? Or a different process?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
"Backup" and "make an MKV" are separate processes... Clonebd is probably expecting a file-structure backup with encryption removed, so use the "Backup" button.

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I didn't even realise there was a "backup" button, thanks!
It's backing up now and then I'll run it through CloneBD. Hopefully this time everything will work and i'll have a process to back everything up and it's not too big or takes too long each disk. My drives are m.2 SSD drives and very fast so once on the disk I would hope it wouldn't take too much longer.

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Woa woa woa. I never said CloneBD will keep the Dolby Vision video track in an MKV container. It most definitely WON'T. MakeMKV will but only if you use it to make the MKV. So this is not going to work.
