D'uh, of course, I meant this one that I've also set

ignoreForcedSubtitlesFlag="false"

which as you've discovered works. And I agree, it should be set to false by default. Speaking of which, if you set a track to default = yes, VLC will play the subtitle automatically, kinda like it's set to forced = yes.
