If you want to do this, you don't need go down the ISO path. If you've made a decrypted backup with MakeMKV, just open that backup folder with VLC and it will play as if the disc was in the drive (only much faster), with menus and everything.

Open VLC MP, click on Media > Open Disc...

Select the "Blu-ray" radio button and make sure "No disc menus" is NOT checked

Now browse for and select the top level of your decrypted backup folder (normally the name of the disc), and click "Play"

As above, it should now play exactly as it would have from the disc.
Can you tell me how to do this in MakeMKV?

You want to choose back-up folder button instead of clicking on the disc drive button.
Backup (makemkv).jpg
Backup (makemkv).jpg (6.04 KiB) Viewed 1299 times
This backs up the whole disc instead of creating a MKV.

Insert the disc and open MakeMKV (or vice versa), then click the yellow "Backup" icon (do not "Open" the disc or the backup button will be greyed-out/unavailable).

Assuming it's a Blu-ray or UltraHD then you need to tick the "Decrypt video files" checkbox, then browse to select the destination folder and then you can make a decrypted backup of the disc.

Once you've done that, follow my previous instructions in VLC Media Player:

I forgot to ask: will the menus work without java if I do this method?
If not, do you know how I can get the menus without installing java?

Some discs use Java, some don't. It depends how the disc was authored.

If the disc menu was written in Java then yes, you need the Java Runtime to use them. I don't know of any way around that requirement.
