So, this is an odd one. I picked up a copy of Honey and Clover S01 the other day, and tried to rip the first disc with MakeMKV 1.15.2 (Linux, Fedora 32, BW-16D1HT 3.10 patched LibreDrive), and it failed partway into the main feature, and I saw some SCSI errors:
Jul 30 15:31:28 mini kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE cmd_age=8s
Jul 30 15:31:28 mini kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#0 Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]
Jul 30 15:31:28 mini kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#0 Add. Sense: Timeout on logical unit

Well that sucks. Look at the physical disc; no scratches, no fingerprints. Cleaned it, tried again, failed. Try doing a backup instead of an mkv rip (I've had some success with this in the past): that works! Great, now I have a decrypted copy I can work with locally without having the drive or USB bus get in the way.
Try to play the decrypted version with vlc: aaaaaaand, it hates it, because regions. Bleh. Try playing the individual m2ts files with mpv, and everything looks great, no issues. That's promising.
So, try building an mkv from the backup: fails, same error. Huh. That's weird. Downgrade to 1.15.1, same probem. Downgrade to 1.15.0, and...... it works. So, my personal problem is solved, but it seems there's something going on here.
MakeMKV logs from 1.15.1 attached. Happy to run additional tests if it'd be helpful.

Looks like the same problem with the second disc as well; attached makemkv log from 1.15.2 this time. As before, 1.15.0 worked fine, for grins, I've attached the makemkv log from that version as well.
I assume there is something up with the mastering of this release, since nothing else has been throwing errors like this.

Re: Blu-ray rip succeeds with 1.15.0, fails with 1.15.1 and .2
I've had this issue with a couple different anime releases as well (bearing in mind that I use makemkv for a TON of anime and not much else, so I doubt "anime" has anything to do with anything). I have the same drive. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Libredrive because one thing -- and only one thing -- has worked for me when this happens:
Rebooting.
The drive is pretty much dead in the water until I reboot, and I can usually rip the same disc just fine the second time around. I also have had luck going back to 1.15.0, but tried upgrading to 1.15.2 for the unrestricted read speed (which works great!), unfortunately this problem did come back with it. This is a summary of my log, most of it just repeats:

Having the exact same issue as above. I've also been ripping a ton of anime and it's happened about a dozen discs so far (out of a couple hundred)
