Road map to be a general purpose backup tool?

Post by thetoad »

Right now MakeMKV does what its title says pretty well. It can take a BR disc and turn it into a set of MKVs. It also had a "backup disc" functionality, but this seems much more limited, i.e. it doesn't seem to be intended to create playable backups (even if on occasion it doe work). i.e. there can be security checks within the java code that would have to be handled and if it would make the discs "region free" it would have to handle PSR20 access in both the HDMV and java code. Today that's obviously not the case, as on many full backups I have playable playlists, but if I try to play the backup on my Dune HD it goes to the "red" security check screen.

With the recent emphasis on java code I was wondering if this was part of your road map? From my perspective it be nice to have a tool that runs natively in linux.

basically wondering if this is within or not within scope of what the product is intended to be.

thanks!
