Understanding how makeMKV generates multiple titles

Post by skypickle »

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is a blu-ray with an Atmos 7.1 audio track, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, and various foreign language stereo tracks. After the disc is scanned you are presented in the gui with 6 titles all with the same name. Some differ in size.
Two titles are 39 GB
Then the remaining 4 titles are 25 MB, 3 GB,31.3 GB, and 4.6 GB

Clearly all this info does not reside on the bluray since the sum exceeds the capacity of a disk.
What is makeMKV doing when it generates these titles?
Most of them include all the same audio tracks as well. But I cannot imagine all this info is the same, or is it?

Correct, all that content does not reside on the disc, MakeMKV is polling and presenting all the playlists which may total more than 50GB. In many cases, they are duplicates but check the content of each title first; if identical, choose one. However, if each title has a different SEGMENT MAP, you'll need to determine which is the correct one. With two, may not be so difficult but some discs have presented hundreds. MakeMKV does not currently reject fake playlists or inform you of the correct one. One reason why I use RedFox AnyDVD with MakeMKV.

So I do not understand how you use redfox. Do you first extract to files and then run makeMKV on that?

Thank you. for your help.

I don't. I just ignore the message from MakeMKV that running it with AnyDVD active is bad. LOL. I've never had an issue at all. I've done a ton of my movies this way for many years.

Same here. Ignore the warning, works like a charm everytime.
