I'm sorry, I don't think this is the issue. I don't use xbmc either.BinaryTB wrote:Fixed maybe?

Can anybody test it out, as I don't know how to go about compiling XBMC.

Re: Audio Sync problems
This does not seem to be entirely accurate. I used makemkv to rip some episodes of The Simpsons Season 4 from DVD, and noticed severe audio sync problems in Boxee (it got up to 8 seconds off by the end of a 23 minute episode, progressively getting worse as time went on). I opened the file in mkvmerge and remuxed it, but got the exact same result with the new file. Specifically I was testing this on an episode called "Mr. Plow", if anybody would like to try to replicate my findings.reded2323 wrote:As I said previously, files passed through mkvmerge work fine. Either muxing them directly from tsmuxer or taking an mkv made with makemkv (out of sync) and re muxing. Both ways are in sync. I love your software so anything I can do to help.....
I had also used makemkv to rip The X-Files Season 6 from DVD, which also had audio sync problems in Boxee, but much less severe than The Simpsons Season 4 had. I tested this mkvmerge remux method with one of these files as well, and again, the problem was identical, there was no difference between the makemkv file and mkvmerge file. Specifically I was testing this on an episode called "The Beginning".
VLC, while it has it's own set of problems with mkv files, was able to play all 4 files (the out of sync makemkv files and the remuxed mkvmerge files) without any audio sync problems.
Media Player Classic can also play the files without any sync problems.
makemkv produces files that work most of the time, but specific seasons of televisions shows on DVD seem to have the problem, while others don't.
This seems most likely to be a problem with the decoder, not with makemkv, but I wonder what the difference is between some discs/files and others that would cause some to have this problem and others not to...

Hi!
If you're referring to episodic DVDs, in the "convert-to-avi" world several years ago, synch problems were frequently observed and were determined to result from differing .IFO structures used to provide for menus that included both individual episode choices and a "Select all" option - as opposed to those that only make provision for individual episode selection...

This is because you have a codec issue...my issue is completly different.
Re: Audio Sync problems
So after much trial and error, I have tacked this down to a problem related to codecs after all. Not sure it is a codec problem itself as blurays (VC-1) ripped using tsmuxer and mkvmergeGUI all work fine with all codecs. Blurays with VC-1 ripped with makemkv will only playback using the MPC-HC codec. Microsoft and FFDshow do not play them back correctly. Must be either something in the header or how makemkv muxes the steams ?

Re: Audio Sync problems
So if you take a MakeMKV-produced MKV file and run it through mkvmergeGUI, would the resulting file still have problems?reded2323 wrote:So after much trial and error, I have tacked this down to a problem related to codecs after all. I'm sorry but your blanket statement is incorrect. Perhaps YOUR system is limited to processing VC-1 BluRays only with the "MPC-HC" codec. I did the following on a Vista 64bit system:
I have just recently used MakeMKV with the new "Sherlock Holmes (2009)" BluRay ( Main movie is VC-1) to both create an .MKV and to create a decrypted full disc backup.
The MKV plays perfectly under Windows Media Player v.11, supported by ffdshow with VC-1 set to "WMP9".
I used IMGBurn to create an .ISO image file of the decrypted full disc. It plays perfectly under PowerDVD v.7.3
Re: Audio Sync problems
I have to demux it then remux it with mkvmerge and it plays with all codecs fine. Just for referance I use shark007 codec pack on a standard 64bit windows system.mike admin wrote:So if you take a MakeMKV-produced MKV file and run it through mkvmergeGUI, would the resulting file still have problems?reded2323 wrote:So after much trial and error, I have tacked this down to a problem related to codecs after all. I have never said this was a blanket issue....I'm trying to find support for an issue I have ?setarip_old wrote:Blurays with VC-1 ripped with makemkv will only playback using the MPC-HC codec.

Click on the following link - Although a different problem, has something in common with your setup - and the cure was found by eliminating it:

Re: Audio Sync problems
Well heres what I do with MKV with sync issues like this.
1. Get your self a copy of TSmuxerGUI
2. Load in your MKV in to TSmuxerGUI and convert it to a TS or M2TS.
3. Now try to to play the file does it still have the same issue ?
But in the end i hate to say it, but it does come down to a codec issue. And like you've said it you have at least 1 player that plays it right. So the files "good". And while I love the MKV format for many things (reduced file by by 4% to 8%), this as been a on going issue I've had with the it since I started using it at the end of 03 (2003).
The only codec pack I've ever recommend any more are:
Combined Community Codec Pack
The only players I'd ever recommand are:
Media Player Classic Home Cinema
XBMC
I personally try to avoid when possible:
VLC - I avoid this one due to it self contained design (all 100% cpu decoding), meaning I can't use CoreAVC with it for my bluray & other h264 files. But for DVD backups in with mpg streams it's fine.
Zoom player
Windows Media Player (normal)

You stated, "Just for referance I use shark007 codec pack" - and the post at link I gave you indicates that the same codec pack proved to be the source of the member's problem. When the "shark007" codec pack was removed, the problem disappeared...

Re: Audio Sync problems
Before posting you should read the thread !!!.........I used Tsmuxer both before I knew about Makemkv and for testing. Makemkv is a great program (which I now have purchaced) but it obviously does something different when making mkv's than mkvmerge does.NomadCF wrote:Well heres what I do with MKV with sync issues like this.

Also if you are still using MPCHM and XBMC then thats your choice. Windows 7 Media Center with mediabrowser is mine and it is a very nice setup
Re: Audio Sync problems
Whilst I no dou't that removing a badly setup codec pack might resove some other issues, this is not the problem here. Shark007's codec pack (like most other good ones) works just fine if you know what you are doing and set it up right.setarip_old wrote:@reded2323
