Star Trek Seasons 1-2 (Haven't tried 3)

Post by microjazz »

Ok there are still problems with the Star Trek Seasons. It simply misses an episode on Discs 2, 3, and 4 (Season 1) and Discs 1, 3, 4, and 7 (Season 2). I don't now what log I should post if it's not seeing the episode to begin with. Should I just tell it to rip everything it sees and post a log? Disc for of season 2 looks like it will work but the end result is a mix of the episode and other special feature. A couple months ago when I first noticed this problem I should note that I used Anydvd. However when I tried disc 7 without anydvd it still wouldn't see an episode.

MakeMKV wont rip this from the DVD nor will it open a VIDEO_TS.IFO successfully ripped with another application.

Code: Select all

MakeMKV v1.4.11 beta win(x86-release) started
Opening files on harddrive at E:/My Documents/DVDFab/FullDisc/DVDVOLUME/VIDEO_TS/
Calculated BUP offset does not match one in IFO header.
Title 1 in VTS 1 is a Multi-PGC title
Title #0 was skipped
Failed to open disc
Wow, thats a weird one! :(

Any DVD with LPCM track won't work. The LPCM audio has to be unchecked our the make file will fail.

Yeah the movie and the error message enjoy the distinction of being both weird and obscure--and possibly even hard to reproduce.

Re: List of DVD/BluRay that haven't worked

Is there a list of movies this program will actually work with? It seems that over half my isos stored from physical discs (I've even tried going from the originals or re-ripping the isos) don't work. Main titles just fail and tv series are buggy at best. It seems like an issue having to do with either copy protection or how it reads menus. When I use DVDFab to recreate a new image without the menus or protection, it's magically able to work again in MakeMKV, but this is suboptimal. There's no way that I can use DVDfab to re-encode isos for my dvd collection before using makemkv. Would take far too much time to do all of them(especially when I spent the time to iso them in the first place). Any fix for this in the works?

Hi!

I have successfully used MakeMKV to rip more than two hundred DVDs and nearly as many BluRay discs.

1) What software and procedures did you use to rip your original DVDs?

2) Have you played the .ISOs to make sure they aren't problematic?

They were ripped with either DVDFab Platinum or AnyDVD HD, always ripped to iso. isos play fine in any dvd/video software I run them through. The exact settings, I'm not 100% sure on. if it was AnyDVD there aren't that many settings. For DVDFab, I either used "clone" method or "Full Disc" methods. As far as I can tell that doesn't seem to have made a difference whether or not the disc is readable in MakeMKV though (some are most aren't). All of the isos are fully functional isos though. Is there a more stable release I should be using.

I'm running Windows 7x32 if that makes any difference.

This would be indicative of a problem with the ORIGINAL .ISO... (Also, MakeMKV does nothing with menus)

As an experiment, try the following:

1) Use ONLY MakeMKV (turn
COMPLETELY OFF AnyDVD) to rip the main movie from an ORIGINAL DVD. Does it successfully create a properly functioning MKV?

2) Use your favorite decrypting program to rip that same ORIGINAL DVD to your hard drive - and then use IMGBurn to create an .ISO image file. WITHOUT mounting the .ISO image, use ONLY MakeMKV (turn
COMPLETELY OFF AnyDVD) to rip the main movie from the .ISO image. Does it successfully create a properly functioning MKV?

3) If not, try mounting the .ISO image with Virtual Clone Drive. Use ONLY MakeMKV (turn
COMPLETELY OFF AnyDVD) to rip the main movie from the .ISO image. Does it successfully create a properly functioning MKV?

1) Will try this and post back

2) Totally defeats the purpose of using MakeMKV in the first place. MKVmerge will take the uncompressed DVD Shrink vobs and put them in a clean mkv file without the extra step of recreating isos.

3) I was already doing this with Daemon Tools. Virtual Clone Drive instead helped on a couple discs, but not the majority.

As I said, the three procedures are each part of an EXPERIMENT to try to track down the cause(s) of your problem...

I have AnyDVD enabled since it didn't seem to make any difference one way or another. I've now tested the original DVD's from some of the isos that weren't converting. So far all work fine, so I'll have to play with the iso settings in DVDFab/AnyDVD when ripping to see what doesn't seem to agree with MakeMKV.

I did notice one thing mildly frustrating... it seems like the subtitles it made from the original iso were all transparent and very hard to see. Is there any way around this or is it just taking the direct subtitle images and offloading them into a file in the mkv container?

Glad to hear we've got you on the right track now ;>}
However, you said:
I have AnyDVD enabled since it didn't seem to make any difference one way or another.
It appears that you still donh't understand the basic tenet of SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTATION - ALL OTHER THINGS REMAINING EQUAL.

You also said:
so I'll have to play with the iso settings in DVDFab/AnyDVD

I provided you with three specific test procedures, including specific programs to use or not use.

For your sake, please follow my suggestions "to the letter" - including having AnyDVD completely turned off while performing these procedures and use IMGBurn to create the .ISO image files...

Ok, here's my error output. BTW, MakeMKV is the only program having issues with my isos so regardless of the "right" method of making them, MakeMKV has iso compatibility issues. I haven't been able to get IMGburn to work right, so if that's what you use to rip DVD's tell me your settings so I can try them. Any idea when there's going to be a usable stable release?

@makeitgo

1) IMGBurn isn't a ripping program

2) Go to the IMGBurn website for detailed information (if needed) to use it properly

3)
Any idea when there's going to be a usable stable release?
There is nothing incomplete or "unstable" about either MakeMKV or IMGBurn. MakeMKV is referred to as being in beta because NEW functions are still being/to be added. Your presumption of MakeMKV being at fault is unjustified.

In light of the fact that MakeMKV has been used by many different users to successfully create MKVs from properly created .ISOs, I'd suggest that the problem is yours, either regarding your methodology or your system. If you can successfully complete the three scenarios I provided, I'm fairly certain you'll see your problems disappear ;>}
