Hi everyone,
I recently reinstalled Windows on my PC and downloaded MakeMKV again. However, since then the program crashes automatically whenever I try to add any file.
Before the reinstall, everything worked perfectly for months — I was able to open and convert files without any issues. Now, as soon as I select a file, MakeMKV freezes and then closes.
I’ve already tried reinstalling MakeMKV, updating all drivers, and running it as administrator, but nothing helped.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what might cause this? Could it be related to missing codecs or a Windows setting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Re: MakeMKV Crash
MakeMKV issues occur because the drive scanning program, including virtual drives** or mapped network drives, is unavailable or not working properly. Open File Explorer and check for any unusual drive letters. Unmount or unmount any unnecessary virtual drives or network drives, then try running MakeMKV again.

Re: MakeMKV Crash
This usually happens when MakeMKV can’t access the optical drive properly after a Windows reinstall. A few things to try:libbi wrote: ↑Mon Nov 10, 2025 8:53 pmHi everyone,

Reinstall the latest MakeMKV after installing all Windows updates.
Update or reinstall your SATA/USB and chipset drivers — Windows often uses generic ones after a reinstall, which can break drive communication.
Delete MakeMKV’s settings folder (%APPDATA%\MakeMKV) to rule out corrupted configs.
Check for third-party software conflicts, especially virtual drive tools or antivirus scanning the disc when MakeMKV opens it.
Verify your drive is in DMA mode, not PIO (Device Manager → IDE/ATA controllers).
Most crashes at file-open are caused by driver/drive access issues rather than codecs.
Hope it helps!
