I have seen this error in other threads but decided to create a new one due to the steps I have tried on mine.
My computer is running Windows 10 Professional. I had a registered version of Makemkv installed that I have not used for at least six months but it to work. I have a LG WH14NS40 drive that still works in Windows to read a data disc I put into it.
I now get the error NO_ANSWER_FROM_MAKEMKVCON when I try to start the program.
Some troubleshooting steps I have tried:
1) The latest version is installed.
2) I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times as Administrator.
3) I backup the whole computer using Macrium Reflect. I unplugged the network cable and then re-imaged the computer from a backup in July 2025 and I have the same error.
4) I also restored the computer from an image in May and have the same error.
5) I also had an image from January 2024 that I restored with Macrium. I did not have MakeMKV installed then, so with the computer still disconnected from the Internet I downloaded 1.18.2 with another computer, copied it to this computer and installed it. I have the same error "NO_ANSWER_FROM_MAKEMKVCON".
6) This computer used to have drives D: and E: also, but I have removed drive E. I went through the registry after one of the uninstalls and removed every entry I found with 'makemkv' in it, but only saw a reference to drives C and D.
7) I also unplugged the LG drive and still have the same error when starting the program.
