Denial is a powerful thing

Post by stootime »

I've been happily ripping 4Ks for about a year on and off, then recently bought some new ones.

Ripped 3 movies fine.
Then "The Substance" appeared to rip fine, but playback of the output file broke at about 45 mins in.
Then "Deadpool & Wolverine" failed with hash check errors.
Then "Get Out" failed with hash check errors.

In-between these failures, other films ripped successfully - and so did a fresh attempt at "The Substance", fuelling my denial that the drive was starting to fail.

Nevertheless, I eventually got a new drive. Because maybe it's those discs? Maybe it's that Linux thing?

Yeah... that original drive is failing. Don't be me, don't live in denial, drives fail.

Yes indeed, they can fail certainly. I am sorry to hear it did die on you. I have 3 TeamGroup nvme and 2 Toshiba spinners. While I certainly trust both manufacturers and have for years, my external Backup drive is replaced every year just in case.
