Long time makemkv owner, first time poster.

Bought my license two years ago after ripping a few dozen disks. Now, I'm into this little hobby for close to $20k. That's a conservative estimate. 1600 blu ray, 250+ 4k and I don't know how many DVDs (tv series, mostly).

I say that to point out how INEXPENSIVE makemkv is. $60 / $20000 = 0.3% of my total expenditure. Peanuts. Noise. Insignificant. I realize this is more than some people spend, but even at $1000 (100 blu ray, give or take), you're only talking 6%. It's amazing I can get what this does for what he charges.

Thanks for making makemkv. Thanks for allowing me to be completely independent of the censorship and propaganda machines masquerading as "streaming services". Thanks for giving me the ability to always have my favorite movies and a big part of my formative years, instantly available in the privacy of my own home. Thanks for enabling the use of content on any device, both now and in the future. Thanks for freedom from unreasonable attempts at controlling my viewing experience in the name of profit.

So I just wanted to weigh in on this subject, since I have personally been on both sides of the "it costs too much" argument. It's all just a matter of perspective, really.

When I was making less money and my monthly expenditures were much higher, I also could not quantify spending $60+ on a piece of software, so I continued using MakeMKV for free. And yes, it was "mildly" annoying to have to wait several days or up to a week sometimes for the new beta key to be posted so I could continue using it. But that's just the nature of the beast. This is still TONS better than most trial software out there, where they give you usually 30 days MAX (usually MUCH less) before they disable it completely until you purchase a license from them.

I used MakeMKV for free for probably 6 - 8 years or so, and was overall very happy to deal with the minor "forced breaks" from ripping stuff while waiting for the next beta key every 60 days or so.

Then, more recently, once I started making more money and my other monthly expenditures were reduced, I had more disposable income. In May of 2022, I finally took the plunge and made the purchase...and was happy to do so. Now I no longer have to wait for the next beta key to be posted when the old one expires, I'm supporting the developer of the product so they can continue development of it, and I haven't looked back.

Also, keep in mind: when you purchase a license, you can use it on more than 1 computer at once, and it is a ONE-TIME PURCHASE...which is increasingly rare in this day & age, where almost EVERYONE wants to push you into paying a perpetual subscription fee. These 2 factors alone make the measly little $60-ish investment WELL worth it.

Believe me, I get it when people don't make enough money to just run out and buy something like this right away, because I've BEEN THERE myself. But to talk trash about what they're charging for it is asinine, especially when you can still continue using it for free with the minor annoyance every 60 days or so waiting for a new key.

If you can't afford it right away, there are still ways to be able to purchase it. You can sock away a few dollars a month until you have enough to pay for it. You can have a garage/yard sale and sell a bunch of old crap you have laying around, cluttering up your house. You can try working a few extra hours a week until you have enough to pay for it. When someone asks what you want for your birthday or Xmas, tell them you want some money to put toward this.

Where there's a will, there's a way...but there are so many people these days who want it all, their way, and RIGHT NOW....they're scared to work for what they want. Don't be one of those people. If you aren't willing to work for it, then you don't want it bad enough, it's as simple as that.
