Need a little crash course

Post by Thirteen37 »

A long time ago I used MakeMKV and AnyDVD HD to copy the main movie of an UHD (*.m2ts file) to an external drive with my Pioneer BDR-XS07U to watch it on TVs without UHD players.
Today I wanted to copy a movie to a hard drive for the first time in a long time and found that AnyDVD is no longer available.
I still wanted to try to copy older UHDs (Deadpool 1 + 2), which didn't work (ProtectionDatabase is installed for AnyDVD and a keydb.cfg is entered there).
AnyDVD gives me this error:
Drive supports bus encryption!
Disc wants bus encryption!
DRIVE NOT SUPPORTED BY MAKEMKV LIBREDRIVE!
ERROR: AnyDVD bus decryption failed! Please reinsert disc!

In MakeMKV I get the following information:
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: [redacted]
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 70

Disc Information
Label: DEADPOOL
Timestamp: 2016-04-25 15:13:39
Protection: AACS2.0/C v60
Data capacity: 57.30 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 2
Bus encryption flags: 80

I have often seen other people in the forum who have posted their MakeMKV information and there was always a point with the title “LibreDrive Information”, which is missing in my case! Why is this no longer possible or what do I have to do to be able to copy the video files again?

I assume because AnyDVD uses a drive filter, where any access to the drive is routed over AnyDVD. So MakeMKV cannot see the LibreDrive capabilities because AnyDVD isn't forwarding them.

Why do you use both tools anyway? MakeMKV also can decrypt UHDs. It might need an internet connection if the UHD key isn't already within the program data.

because I already had anydvd for FullHD BluRays at the time and (if I remember correctly) it didn't work out of the box with UHD. That's why I had the combination of AnyDVD and MakeMKV.
So I uninstalled AnyDVD now, but MakeMKV still has no point with “LibreDrive Information”.
When I press the big “Open Blu-ray disc” button, I also get a lot of errors in the log.

Here is the log (it was too long to paste it here): https://pastebin.com/07fvwRFV

This is related to either Makemkv or the drive itself.

Which version of Makemkv is installed? Do you grant internet access to Makemkv so it can update keys and supported drives?

Your firmware version 1.01 should be before Dec. 2022 but the question is if you have updated the drive's firmware? If yes: Did you do that after Dec. 2022 then it's very likely that your drive can't support UHDs anymore since Pioneer crippled that fuction and Makemkv can't activate Libredrive anymore. And then there is also no way back to older firmware.

Please also post your Libredrive information w/o any disc in the drive.

Ok I dont know why, but I just unpluged the USB-C Cable and reconnected it a few times, but that didnt helped.
Then I twisted the USB-C cable 180° and now it works, even if I twist it back.
I have no idea why, but I was able to rip the discs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
