BDInfo feature?

Post by LostBoy »

Hey All,

When trying to find out the average bitrate for both audio and video on a 4K Bluray that I ripped with MakeMKV I was a little sad to see this data wasn't among the wealth of information in the app.

I ended up turning to BDinfo to get this, but it essentially re-reads the entire disc, taking another hour of time.

Is it possible to get this data from MakeMKV and I am just not looking properly, or do you think it could be added in a future beta?

An example from BDinfo is below;
DISC INFO:

Disc Title: Bad.Boys.Ride.or.Die.2024.UHD.BluRay.2160p.HEVC.Atmos.TrueHD7.1
Disc Size: 74,615,928,327 bytes
Protection: AACS2
Extras: Ultra HD, BD-Java
BDInfo: 0.7.5.9 (compatible layout created by DVDFab 12.0.5.1)

PLAYLIST REPORT:

Name: 00001.MPLS
Length: 1:55:58.951 (h:m:s.ms)
Size: 73,600,598,016 bytes
Total Bitrate: 84.61 Mbps

When you turn the movie into a MKV file wiht MakeMKV that file should contain the information, doesn't it?

Does mediainfo give you what you want from the .mkv files produced?

If not, you could use MakeMKV's backup function to make a decrypted backup of the disc first. MakeMKV can read the backup and create .mkv files from it at the speed of your storage which will be a lot faster than the speed of your optical drive. Perhaps BDInfo can operate on this backup as well?

BDinfo will open a backup. I always backup to my pc first then open with Makemkv. I only use it on rare occasion, like when selecting individual tracks in Makemkv, I will also open the bluray in VLC and look at the runtime to determine the correct file. On occasion there will be multiple files with the same run time, opening bdinfo will let me see the stream/playlist which I can then play directly from the backups folders to find the correct one. The other issue I have had, albeit only once, was an "extra" makemkv was not listing.
