Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives
An update would be good for those of us waiting so we can decide if we want to explore other avenues. We are nearly into February... There is obviously a major hiccup in the works somewhere. The lack of a response suggests it’s a ways off yet, if even possible. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. T...

Re: Heads up - Support for LG UHD drives
Question for Mike. I want to first clarify my ask is NOT a "when" kind of question. Just curious if there's any fundamental issues holding up release for the support of these drives. A few pages back you mentioned something about coordination with others being the cause for delay. Is that ...

Re: Keep Orginal MKVs or Recompressed?
The SHIELD is both server and player. When I'm on my living room SHIELD, it's the server and all content I'm playing on it is on through that device. When I watch something in the bedroom on my other SHIELD, that's acting as JUST a client connecting to the server on my living room SHIELD. And since ...

Re: Keep Orginal MKVs or Recompressed?
No no, the SHIELD *IS* a plex server. And a damn good one. It's got a very powerful nVidia Tegra chip in it that can perform hardware encoding of a few streams at once. My NAS *COULD* run plex but it's got nowhere near the horsepower of the SHIELD. The SHIELD mounts the NAS and my HTPC as file share...

Re: Keep Orginal MKVs or Recompressed?
All of my files are on my NAS and/or my HTPC meaning they are shared over my gigabit network. I have a SHIELD running Plex. It transcodes even UHD just fine through hardware encoding. Never had a real issue with the setup. Works great.

Re: Keep Orginal MKVs or Recompressed?
I don't compress any of my MKV's and that includes UHD's.

Re: UHD drives
1.01 is the current shipping version yeah, I believe that 1.00 is the desired revision, though I'm not sure why. Well, if it becomes necessary, I'll figure out how to downgrade it. I'm not super worried right now as I've got a friendly ASUS drive with 3.02 on it that hasn't let me down yet with any...

Re: MKV and Plex
It shouldn't be too hard given that you're just opening one and looking at the header info. But that should give you an idea of what's happening.

Re: Bad Times at the El Royale - Fails to decrypt
Just bought this disc myself. This could be a fun one to play with since it's the first Fox title (that I'm aware of) that has HDR10+. Let the games begin!

Re: Encoding while Ripping - is that ok?
Ripping is simply labor intensive on the optical drive and your hard drive that you're ripping to. It should be perfectly fine to run an encode at the same time as performance should not be impacted.

Re: MKV and Plex
Did you get a chance to open one of them up with MKVToolnix and see what the header information looks like? Specifically the title field I believe.

Re: UHD drives
Where's the fun in that? :D Ok, just remember this is 100% speculation by someone who hasn't a clue what he's talking about (me) so take it with 300lbs of salt or something. All I'm thinking is that for blu-ray, AACS 1.0 support was needed to actually decrypt blu-rays using the full AACS decryption ...

Re: UHD drives
P.S. the long term investement group here has advised me to state "buying a WH/BH16NS60 svc code. NS60, is one of the best investments you'll ever make. (I've got those as well.) I just got one of those delivered yesterday. Seems to have been shipped with firmware 1.1. Can't wait to see what's...

We'll just say I have my doubts on that and leave it at that. Rumors are fun but I don't see any real evidence.
